Lighten up, brighten up!

I’m currently designing three kitchen projects and a few bathrooms. They are rewarding jobs because, not only do I get to put my mixologist skills to work for the finish and color selections but my Master’s degree training comes into play. I love envisioning how ceilings will meet and planes intersect. One of the projects has a smaller dated kitchen that we are trying to open up, expand and lighten visually as much as possible. In fact, the before shots of our project remind me a little bit of this Ojai’s project by the talented Amber Interiors. (girlfriend is on fire).. Check out this beautiful transformation. I would LOVE to raise the ceiling, just like this!! And look at the power of warm, white paint!

Cottage Love #54

Afternoon, lovies!! I’m taking a much needed break from a kitchen design I’m working on. Don’t get me wrong, I’m loving the process but needed a little breather from computer drawing.

Today, I’m sharing the Better Homes and Garden feature of Julianne Hough’s adorable home (a.k.a Jules – my nickname too). This incredibly cozy nest is just what the doctor ordered on this frigid snowy day! It doesn’t get much more inviting. And that kitchen??? GAH! If I did not have so many friends and family in New England, I’d move to southern California in a heartbeat!!

in the kitch

Hello, hello! As you know, I’m always tweaking my little ranchola. I finish a room and then decide to change up another. My goal is to have it photographed this Summer so you can see what’s been going on around here for the past three years!! I started with a home frozen in time (1972 to be exact), it has taken me a while to transform the spaces. I have, of course been on the single Mama budget but have NO shortage of ideas!! A few weeks before Christmas I had the opportunity to collaborate with Ace Hardware and OPI on my kitchen cabinet interior. I’m always amazed by the magic of a fresh coat of paint. I transformed the inside of my glass cabinet with a lovely shade of green, named Jade is the new black. It is an OPI nail lacquer shade available in Clark+Kensington paint. I’m loving how it looks with my white + gold dish-ware! Splashes of fresh color make this girl happy. Read all about it on OPI’s blog here.

Celebrate!

Yesterday I shared my love of La Cornue ranges. I almost left out a another gorgeous color option: the white and copper! Copper is fast becoming another favorite design choice of mine. I’m completely in awe of Lauren’s fresh, white, bright kitchen. It’s designed with cooking, baking and storage in mind! Her entire home is pretty amazing actually. If you’re on my holiday gift list and love to entertain, chances are you’ll be receiving a copy of her book Celebrate.

I am in desperate need of storage in my home. I may try to incorporate some floating shelving into my own home design.

Here is a video tour of her fabulous kitch!

Bachelor Pad

I woke up this am unsure about what I felt like posting about today, then while searching for a client piece I came across this fabulous man nest! I love how it incorporates vintage plus new items and fearlessly mixes metals. And those windows? Wow!

Men and women often have different ideas of how they want their home to look. My boyfriend and I often disagree on design aesthetics, he doesn’t quite understand my layered approach yet. (key word: is YET). I’ll have to show him this home, maybe seeing it executed in a masculine fashion will be a better sell. Designed by Summer Thorton
