By the sea

I’m back in business with my own computer and software today! (whoo hoo). I was feeling lost for a few days without my digital world at my finger tips. It is, no joke, about a zillion degrees in Boston today. It seems every year we go from 60 to 99 in a few days and we northerners are never really prepared for the shock of the temperature shift. I am not complaining, but a few 80 degree days would be fabulous!

I am sitting in the AC and was delighted to come across The Glow’s site. The Glow, an intimate diary and stylish guide about motherhood and all it’s glory and heartache was co-founded by Violet Gaynor and Kelly Stuart. It documents both the struggles and joy with Kelly’s beautiful photographs and Violet’s warm words. Today, I am sharing the airy, lighthearted images of Kelly Sawyer Patricof, their beautiful Malibu beach house and Kelly’s adorable daughters.  See the additional photographs and the story here. Kelly is a former model and co-founder of the non-profit Baby2baby.

Shelter Loves…

Hola, I’m keeping things short and sweet around here today! I snuck in a “chill” yoga class with my friend Tammi this am! I need to do that more often. I’m feeling relaxed and colorful today. Here is what is on my radar this week. Happy Friyay!

1. It’s sweater and fair isle season. I would wear this Boden version in a smaller size with skinny jeans and great flat boots.
2. I was sorry to miss Eddie’s book signing last night at Hudson. I had a birthday dinner so I could not make it!
3. Ahhh, yes! Or at least throw the room off with something unexpected!
4. I wear glasses to drive. In fact my night vision seems to be getting worse. eek. I need a new pair of glasses and am going to try the free at home trial with Warby Parker. The prices are right and I would rather not feel rushed at a store. I am kinda liking the Baxter and the Jennings. Heavy glasses over power my face, these feel a bit lighter.
5. + 6. Okay so I am slightly obsessed with team Gen + Ben’s style. Their colorful and graphic designs really resonate with me. Check out the duo’s amazingly creative firm here and their home feature on One King’s Lane here. ONE WORD: GAH!!

Cottage Love #23

You know I have a love for smaller homes that are beautifully finished. They tend to pack a punch but don’t take as much time to maintain! California Bungalows are up there as one of my favorites. In fact, I’d most likely move out west if I didn’t worship my family here in Massachusetts. (I also can’t leave now until my children are 18) Don’t get me wrong there are so many things I love about the Boston area but after this winter a longer warm season would be much appreciated!!
This lovely home is that of comedic writer Erin Foster. Her new show, Barely Famous, airs on VH1. I’m loving the light, layered style. It feels fresh, updated and attainable.
I was actually working on a project today with a similar feel! Erin hired designers from the company Spruce. I also have to mention that DOMAINE is one of my favorite online design magazines! They never disappoint! I think I’ll be tuning into her show tonight @9:30/8:30Central.

Cottage Love #22

I took a quick business trip to Chicago last Friday for my Ace Hardware design expert gig! We filmed a short studio segment. It was fun! I always take the opportunity to catch up on some magazine reading while I am traveling.. Like you, I’m tiring of the frozen tundra that I call home!  I rely on a bit of escapism to lift my spirits.

I was thrilled to see in the March issue of HGTV Magazine, an article featuring home owner Natalie Lea’s colorful Houston ranch. Natalie worked closely with designer Bailey McCarthy on the project. The overall inspiration of Natalie’s home pays tribute to her mother, who passed away of cancer. Natalie’s abode brightened my day. I hope it does the same for you. Just look at all the beautiful design details! Natalie’s interior designer, Bailey McCarthy, is also the creator of Biscuit Home. – be sure to check her great shop and bedding line out! xx

This front door and wall paper are fabulous. I need a front door with so many glass windows. It’s a great way to add more light to your home.
After seeing this, I am so happy I ordered brass pulls to my kitchen design!!

Rustic Chic

My blog and work is pretty telling, I love color!  That however doesn’t mean I don’t have an appreciation and love of neutrals too. I’m drawn to neutral palettes that include a variety of textures and finishes. Fashion designer, Jenni Kayne’s , rustic Los Angeles home is a stunning mix of sculptural objects and sophisticated colors and textures. I would love a textural white window seat like the one she is sitting in. Jenni also has a fashion line of clothing, be sure to check it out here and here. Have a great weekend!! I’m off to gather together more items for my Thanksgiving table and photo shoot next week. I’m excited to see how it turns out!! Images: via PopSugar and One King’s Lane.

Little buckets are a great place to store crayons, pencils and chalk!
